But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish.
Yes, this is the Jonah who was swallowed by the great fish. The Lord had told him to preach against the city of Ninevah because of its wickedness. Instead of heeding God, Jonah tried to run away.
We may look at this and think how futile it was for Jonah to try and run away from an omniprescient God, and how silly that looks. But on the other hand, do we do the same thing? When something needs to be addressed and we feign ignorance or make excuses for not getting involved or taking action, how is that any different?
